Creating a symbol

You can create a symbol from any object, text, or group. Symbols can include other symbols.

To create a new symbol:

1 Choose Insert > New Symbol.
The Symbol Properties dialog box opens.
2 In the Name text box, type a name for the symbol.
3 Choose a symbol type, either Graphic or Button, and click OK.
The Symbol Editor or Button Editor opens.
4 Create the object to be used as a symbol and close the editor.
The symbol appears in the Library and in the document.

To turn one or more selected objects into a symbol:

1 Choose Insert > Convert to Symbol.
The Symbol Properties dialog box opens.
2 In the Name text box, type a name for the symbol.
3 Choose a symbol type, either Graphic or Button, and click OK.
The selected object becomes a symbol and the symbol appears in the Library.
